A social network is a defined set of units connected by social ties. The units can be individuals, groups, organisations, etc., and the social ties are the relationships (social, business, intimate, etc.) between them.

In the design of an online survey, networks are composed of units that are assessed by the respondent on the basis of the same questions. For this purpose, 1KA offers the option of a special survey type 'Social Networks', which you can enable in the 'EDIT' - 'Settings' - 'Advanced modules' tab before editing the questionnaire.

When you enable the 'Social networks' module, you will also see a further description of the functionality and links to examples in the questionnaire library. Additionally, after activation of the module, the 'SN-Names' question type will appear in the 'EDIT' - 'Questionnaire' tab among all the question types, under 'Advanced Features'.

The 'SN-Names' question type is placed first or before the loop, as it is used to indicate the names of all the entities to which the respondent is socially connected in some way (friends, family, business partners, etc.). In the questionnaire itself, by clicking on 'Add new contact', respondents add people from their network to whom the questions below, which are inserted in the loop, will apply. They can add as many people as they like, but of course the question can also be changed to ask for other variables, such as countries they have been to, etc.

The list of names must be followed by a Loop, which can be found among all the question types, under 'Advanced Features'. The loop allows you to repeat a question or multiple questions according to the answers to the previous question, in our case according to the variables that the respondent will provide via the 'SN-Names' question. In the loop, you select the first question or variable 'SN-Names' from the drop-down list, then add in all the questions that will be generated for each person listed by the respondents in the 'SN-Names' question.

In this way, respondents use the name generator to create their network, and the questions in the loop collect the information of interest about their network.

The functionality is available for users of the 3KA package for individuals, and for users of the business packages for groups.

You can register for the 1KA online tool (create an 1KA user account) using your email address or your Google account.

You can then use this account to log in to the 1KA tool.

The 1KA tool allows you to create a variety of quizzes and tests.

You will need to start by creating a regular survey that allows branching and conditions (as opposed to a Form or Voting survey). Once you have created a survey, navigate to the 'EDIT' - 'Settings' tab and click on 'Quiz' in the 'Advanced Modules' section of the left hand menu.

In the "EDIT" - "Questionnaire" tab, enter all the questions and answers of the quiz, which must be of a categorical type ('Categories - Single answer' or 'Categories - Multiple answers').

Display of correct and incorrect answers

A special feature of the quiz is the identification of correct and incorrect answers. The correct answers can be determined in a very simple way by clicking on the 'tick', which is the second to last icon on the right hand side of each category/answer. The tick will turn green.

In this case, at the end of the survey/quiz, all questions will be displayed with the correct (green) and incorrect (red) answers highlighted.

Display of the text according to the result

If you want to display text for a specific result, you need to use calculations and conditions. For each answer in turn, 1KA automatically assigns the values 1, 2, 3, etc. In the case of a quiz, you need to change these values: the correct answer to the question must have the value 1, and all other answers (i.e. incorrect answers) must have the value 0.

To change the value of each answer, select 'Edit answer values' in the question settings and change the value of each answer (1 for correct answers and 0 for incorrect answers).

Insert a 'Computation/Calculation' after the questions to include the sum of all questions, then add a page break afterwards.

You enter the text of each result in the question type 'Label' and then use the conditions to specify which output (Label) should be displayed according to the respondent's score at the end of the questionnaire (e.g. if the sum of the scores is less than 5, the first Label should be displayed). You can also use the 'data piping' function to output the score achieved by the respondent in the displayed text.

Some of the functionalities described are only available for users of the 2KA and 3KA packages for individuals, and for users of the business packages for groups.
