The 1KA service is an online service that supports the online survey process. Even when the term '1KA' is used on its own, it generally refers to the '1KA service'.
The 1KA application is open-source software that enables the 1KA service. Development of the application began in 2008 at the Centre for Social Informatics (CDI), Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Ljubljana. The University of Ljubljana is also the formal holder of the corresponding intellectual property rights.
The 1KA website provides information about the 1KA service (guides, manuals, frequently asked questions, etc.), the 1KA application (installation, terms of use, etc.), and related services (hosting, user support, training, research, instruction, consulting, events, projects, survey research implementation, etc.). The 1KA website is maintained by CDI, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Ljubljana.
A 1KA installation refers to the web address (URL) and the corresponding web server on which the 1KA application is installed and where the 1KA service can be used. The following installations of the 1KA application are currently available to the general public:
- www.1KA.si is a public installation of the 1KA application intended for Slovenian users, providing web hosting and user support. Use of the basic functionalities of the 1KA service is free of charge, while more advanced use is subject to a fee;
- OneClickSurvey.com is a public installation of the 1KA application intended for international users, providing web hosting and user support. Use of the basic functionalities of the 1KA service is free of charge, while more advanced use is subject to a fee;
- 1KA.arnes.si is a dedicated installation for users in the education and research sectors in Slovenia (pupils, students, teachers, researchers, etc. with an ArnesAAI identity). Web hosting and user support for the free use of the 1KA service via Arnes are provided by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation.
A self-hosted 1KA installation is an installation of the 1KA application on the user's own server. As 1KA is an open-source application, it can be installed free of charge on a private server and used without limitation, subject to the user's own responsibility and with their own user support.
