Vprašalnik

Zavihek 'VPRAŠALNIK' omogoča:

4. Dodatno urejanje in preverjanje vprašalnika

'zapri vse'.

5. Knjižnica vprašanj in anket

Dostopate lahko do javne knjižnice, iz katere lahko kopirate vprašanja in ankete, ter do osebne knjižnice, v katero vprašanja in ankete lahko dodajate ali pa jih iz nje kopirate.

Image Type of Question Layout

The 'Category – Single answer' and 'Table - Single answer' question types enable the use of image layout. With this layout, you can present the question graphically. You can choose the 'Image type' layout in the 'Basic' tab of the question settings, next to the 'Layout' option in the question editor. Additional settings will be available at the bottom of the settings menu:

  • Type of image: you can choose between a star, thumb, smiley, heart, flag or user.
  • Number of answers: select the number of possible answers (number of stars, thumbs, smiley faces, hearts, flags or users).

Semantic Differential

The semantic differential is a bipolar evaluation scale, with two opposing adjectives or response values on each side of the scale, e.g. happy/sad, very attractive/not attractive at all, very likely/not likely at all, etc. The semantic differential can be used to measure the respondent's attitude towards ideas, concepts, things, people and events.

Semantic differential as a table

To create a semantic differential in the 1KA tool, when editing a questionnaire, click on 'Add question' in the 'EDIT' – 'Questionnaire' tab (or on the plus sign in the menu on the left) and select 'Single answer tables - Semantic differential'. Enter the corresponding opposite adjectives on the left and right side of the radio buttons.

Semantic differential as a slider

The semantic differential can also be presented in the form of a slider. In the 1KA tool, you can do this by using the question type Data input – Slider. In the Slider's question settings:

  • set the 'Lower limit' to 1 and the 'Upper limit' to 5;
  • check the 'Show slider's interim labels' option;
  • check the 'Show descriptive labels above slider's Min and Max' option.

Testing Respondents' Attention Using “Trap” Questions

Trap questions (also known as bogus questions) are designed to check whether respondents are cheating by speeding up their completion of the survey. Respondents are thus occasionally asked a trivial question (e.g. to choose a certain answer in a question added for this purpose). If the respondent chooses an incorrect answer, then it can be assumed that they have not paid attention to the content of the question.

The use of trap questions is recommended in the case of panels or in the case of rewards for completing a survey, where the respondent only wants to satisfy the needs of the interviewer by answering quickly or by choosing random answers. It is recommended that these questions are not too difficult, boring, unusual or even offensive.

A study by Baker – Prewitt and Miller (2009) shows that more than 10 % of the respondents are not successful at passing such questions. This research also shows that we can increase the quality of the research by using trap questions:

  • respondents use more time to finish the survey;
  • fewer respondents speed through the survey;
  • fewer respondents choose the same answer at different questions (straight-lining);
  • the smaller likelihood for respondents to miss the next trap question;
  • less mind cheating;
  • respondent’s answers show a higher correlation with the measurement scale.

Respondents' attention can also be enhanced by using a combination of positive and negative statements, which can encourage respondents to read and think more carefully before responding to each statement.

Option to Hide Radio and Checkbox Buttons Next to Categories

When editing the ‘Category – Single answer’ and ‘Category - Multiple answers’ question types, the option ‘Hide radio buttons’ or ‘Hide checkbox buttons’ is available in the ‘Advanced’ tab of question settings that open when you click on the question.

This functionality is particularly useful for adjusting the survey for mobile devices, especially in the case of image based-answers. In this case, you can hide the buttons (radio or checkbox) and respondents who will complete the questionnaire via mobile phone will choose the answer or image by tapping on the answer or image instead of the radio/checkbox button.

Insert Numerical Answers With Slider

There are two ways to insert a 'Slider' in the questionnaire: you can select it from the list of All question types in the menu on the left, or you can select 'Slider' as the 'Layout' in the question editor for the 'Numeric input' and 'Number Table' question types, with additional options:

  • display of the slider’s handle (the respondents' selection is marked with a circle when this setting is disabled);
  • disable the display of the number above the selected point;
  • display of all possible answers (all possible answers are displayed on the slider - if the slider's handle is enabled answers are shown in the shape of an ellipse and if the slider's handle is disabled answers are displayed in a circle);
  • slider’s step;
  • the lower limit and the upper limit;
  • display of interim lines;
  • display of numerical labels (minimum and maximum);
  • display of descriptive numerical labels;
  • display of descriptive labels at maximum and minimum that can also be renamed;
  • display of default descriptive labels (determine the number and descriptive label that you want to associate with the selected number);
  • display of area labels (determine the number of areas and name them).

Labelling a Question as Mandatory

You can label a specific question as mandatory in the 'EDIT' – 'Questionnaire' tab, in the right-hand side menu which is accessed by clicking on the question you want to edit. Tick the option 'Question is mandatory' and choose how respondents will be reminded of the question:

  1. Soft reminder: the application will warn the respondent of the unanswered question, but will still allow them to continue;
  2. Hard reminder: the application will not allow the respondent to continue until the question has been answered.

There is also a setting to set either a soft or hard reminder for all questions in the survey, or to remove reminder from all questions. These settings are available in the 'EDIT' - 'Settings' - 'Basic info' - 'Alerts' tab.
