In the 'DASHBOARD' - 'Item nonresponse' tab, the table shows calculations of item non-response for your survey questions. Item non-response means that a respondent who participated in the survey did not answer a particular question. It tells you how many valid responses you collected in relation to whom a particular question was shown.

Item non-response may occur because:

• respondents do not know the answer;
• respondents refuse to answer (especially to sensitive questions or if they consider the questions to be irrelevant to the stated objectives of the research);
• due to haste, mistakes made by the respondent (the question is skipped or respondent forgets to write down the answer);
• due to subsequent elimination (deletion) of inconsistent answers.

Item non-response is calculated using a formula, by which the number of non-response (status -1), where the respondent did not answer the question, is divided by the sum of the number of valid responses, the number of nonresponses (status -1) and the number of invalid or non-substantive responses (eg. status -97). For example, if 20 respondents answered a survey and only 10 gave a valid response to the question Q1 and the remaining 10 did not answer, then the item non-response to the question Q1 is 0.5, or 50%.
